Faelyn had what many would consider a charmed childhood; while her family was not wealthy, they owned a tavern in their town and made fair coin from locals and passing travelers alike. With a loving mother, and doting father, they raised her side by side and offered her the best of what they could. A curious child, she more often than not found herself in sticky situations on what she considers her constant quest for knowledge, never content to be told an answer, but always seeking it for herself.
One afternoon at the age of ten, a friend told her that there was a plug at the bottom of every lake, and if it was pulled, the lake would empty. Calling his bluff, Faelyn swam deep into the water to seek the bottom, searching for the rumored plug -- What she found instead was a dormant beast who upon being brushed by the fingers of the child woke and lashed out at her, grabbing onto her arms and legs with vine-like tentacles and pulling her deeper into the water. In her panic, Faelyn screamed out in the water and inhaled -- While most would have drowned then and there, dormant magic triggered by the iminent danger was unleashed within her. Blacking out, she woke up in the arms of her screaming father after washing ashore on the other side of the lake. The once formidable beast was left floating in a solid ball of ice in the water, and reports of a bright light having erupted from beneath the surface were Faelyn and her parents only clues as to what had taken place. Soon, she began to have an effect on water and other liquids, unintentionally freezing the entire supply of liquor during an argument with her mother. Faelyn began to experiment, teaching herself how to harness and use her abilities to the best of her young minds understanding.
Three years past, and after she turned thirteen and took on a full time role in upkeep and service in the tavern, Faelyn became something of an attraction. She could chill a drink in an instant, make liquor dance across the bar, and many other tricks; she caught the attention of a traveling mage, who came to her parents and offered to take their now teenaged daughter with him and train her to truely understand and use her abilities. He believed she had untapped powers that could do real good in the world, and that her natural gifts were being wasted on parlor tricks.
The goodbye was a tearful one, but also exciting for the teenaged Faelyn who was thrilled to have the opportunity to learn more, and experience the world. The two mages traveled together, spending hours in ancient libraries, visiting temples, ruins, and traveling far and wide. Before she knew it, Faelyn was turning eighteen, and had far surpassed her elderly mentor in skill, knowledge, and ability. They parted ways in a small village that he felt comfortable enough in to call his final home, and for the first time in her life, Faeyln set out completely on her own.
It wasn't long before her keen ability to find trouble caught up with her, and the powers she had spent so long training to use were put to good use in the defense of a town from a cave troll; the rush she felt from the battle set her on a new path, determined to use her powers to defend those who cannot protect themsleves, and to rid the world of the dark forces that give way to those intent on harm.
